Beyond the Movie
The Elves
- Narrator:
- Along his journey Frodo encounters one of Tolkien's most captivating creations: The Elves.
[Lothlorien Elves]
- Narrator:
- Frodo meets Galadriel, queen of the Elves, who offers him a glimpse of the future. The Elves own future entails a live beyond Middle-earth
- Galadriel:
- Do you want to look into the mirror?
- Frodo:
- What will I see?
- Galadriel:
- Even the wisest cannot tell. For the mirror shows many things. Things thatwere, things that are, and some thing that not yet come to pass.
- Cate Blanchett:
- Galadriel is queen of the Elves, and the Elves are passing over, they are moving on beyond Middle-earth. There is a sadness, a bitter-sweetness about what she and her kind are going through.
[Cate Blanchett / Peter Jackson gives Galadriel - Cate Blanchett some advices]
- Narrator:
- Of all Middleearth races, the elves were closest to Tolkien's heart. They are the ideal beings: Pure, beautiful, and immortal. Tolkien devoted a considerably amount of his creative energy into conceiving this ethereal race.
[Galadriel in her boat/Arwen meets Aragorn at the stoned trolls/ Legolas admires the bow he got as a gift from Galadriel / Lothlorien elves in the wood / Arwen on a walkway in Rivendell]
- Elijah Wood:
- I think, one of the most amazing elements of Lord of the Rings is the Elves. And the fact that he created an existence for them, he actually created a language.
[Elijah Wood/ Lothlorien elves in the wood / the Ring's inscription from Isildur's record]
- Narrator:
- The comprehensive and elegant languages Tolkien invented are collectively called "Elvish".
[Arwen and Aragorn on the bridge in Rivendell]
- Liv Tyler:
- One of my favourite elvish lines: Law, hŒr n¡n, £ dollen i RŒw. An¡rach, nui l–, gwannad uin gwaith l¡n? [Liv Tyler, (No, my Lord, winter has not yet come. Would you before your time leave your people?),]
